Kerby Acosta was 17 years old when he was murdered in a residential area in Denver, Colorado, more than 20 years ago, and the person responsible for his death has yet to be brought to justice.
On July 13, 1997, Kerby was standing outside with a group of his friends in the 4500 block of Mariposa Street when they saw a vehicle coming up the street.
As it passed the group of teens, an occupant in the vehicle pulled out a shotgun, aimed it at the teens, and opened fire.
Kerby was struck by the bullet.
By the time emergency responders arrived, Kerby had already succumbed to his injuries.
The Colorado Bureau of Investigation reported that there were several occupants in the vehicle, but none of the suspects have been identified.
There are a few available details in the case.
Local authorities have worked diligently to find Kerby’s killer, but ultimately, his case turned cold.
The Denver Police Department’s Cold Case Unit has since turned to the public for help in solving his murder.
A reward of up to $2,000 is being offered for more information in the case that will lead to an arrest and conviction, according to the Denver Police Department.
