Melissa Lynn Eck, who went by the nickname “Missy,” was born on Nov. 8, 1976. She was 15 years old when she went missing from Pensacola, Florida, and despite the efforts of local authorities, her whereabouts are still unknown more than three decades later.
On the night of June 25, 1992, Melissa left her boyfriend’s house after they got into a heated argument, and he followed behind her. The then-15-year-old caught up with her as she was walking along Patricia Drive between West Cerny Road and West Fairfield Drive.
Melissa was planning to walk to a friend’s house nearby.
Her boyfriend walked with her half of the way before he assumably turned around and headed home. What happened with Melissa afterward remains unknown, as she never made it to her destination.
She didn’t take her purse, or her clothing, and she left two of her paychecks from The Original Point Restaurant, located on Innerarity Point Road, which is where she worked.
When Melissa was reported missing, one detective believed that she left with someone because he learned that she had previously made statements about leaving and not telling anyone where she was going, according to the Pensacola News Journal.
Despite those statements, Melissa’s friends and family asserted that she would have never run away from home.
Following an investigation, detectives determined that Melissa may have been the victim of foul play. And if anything happened to her, it would have happened the night she disappeared.
The day after Melissa went missing, her mother printed about 200 posters of the teen and posted them in the mall as well as convenience stores in the county.
The mother of Melissa’s boyfriend also helped.
Melissa is described as a white or Caucasian female with brown hair and green eyes. At the time of her disappearance, she was five-foot-eleven inches tall and weighed 110 pounds.
When she was last sighted, it is believed that she wore a black tank top, black shorts, black shoes, and likely a pair of hoop earrings. She has two piercings in one ear and one in the other.
In her upper left arm, there is an implantation of a birth control device known as Norplant, and on her buttocks, she has a scar that she got from a BB gun.
An age-progression photo of Melissa shows what she would have looked like at age 43.
