Myrtle Jackson, who also went by the names Myrtle Grant and Mrs. Kenneth Grant, was 27 years old when she was murdered. Her body was found inside her vehicle more than 40 years ago, and the person responsible for her death has yet to be brought to justice.
On the morning of July 16, 1977, Jackson left her home, located on the 100 block of Overbrook Road, in her Volkswagen.
As she was driving on Spruce Street, an unknown person shot her in the head, according to The Greenville News.
Jackson was found that same morning near 15 Spruce Street, slumped over in the driver’s seat of her vehicle with the engine still running.
Emergency first responders presumably arrived on the scene and subsequently transported her to Greenville General Hospital, where she was listed in critical condition.
Jackson was pronounced dead sometime after her arrival.
A police report indicated that Jackson believed she was being followed before she was shot and killed.
Police officials stated that a witness saw a vehicle speeding from the crime scene, but no other information was provided.
