Zedric Daniels, who was known to relatives and friends as “Zed Boogie,” was 20 years old when he was murdered. His body was found in Virginia Beach, Virginia, and the person responsible for his death has yet to be brought to justice.
In the early morning hours of Nov. 9, 2001, Daniels, of Newport News, accompanied his friend to the Holiday Inn at 5655 Greenwich Road. His friend parked the vehicle in front of the establishment and went inside to use the restroom. Moments later, shots rang out.
He ran outside and found Daniels in his vehicle, bleeding from his head, according to the Virginia Beach Police Department. Emergency first responders arrived and found Daniels unresponsive. They tried desperately to revive him, but to no avail.
Zedric Daniels was pronounced dead at the scene.
His body was transported to the State Medical Examiner’s Office for an autopsy, which revealed that he died from a single gunshot wound to the head.
His death was ruled a homicide.
At that time, police officials believed the shooting may have been linked to another shooting at a 7-Eleven store nearby, as it occurred around the same time, the Daily Press reported.
A police spokesperson stated that a 37-year-old man was shot after he refused to hand over his wallet.
The man was taken to Sentara Norfolk General Hospital, where he was treated and later released. Investigators stated that they were unsure which incident took place first, but they were analyzing the shell casing to uncover if the same gun was used in both shootings.
Nearly 20 years have passed, and there have been no reports on the progress of the investigation, nor have there been any arrests made in connection with Daniels’ murder.
His case remains unsolved.
